My Morning Sadhana

Summer solstice and Midsummer Eve.
We are overwhelmed by the light, the sun and the green summer around us. I woke up early today with the first touch of morning, took Owen the Dog who never thinks it is too early to have a walk 3 a.m. and follow the sun in the wood tops to the sea shore and Almas beach.
Someone else had woken up early, too. Reminds me of the old Greek legend about a girl who was transformed to a spider when she had had guts to challenge the goddess in sewing.
Single mother community of  eiders had a morning swim at Almas when I arrived.

The sun.

And the next high point of the day is the gathering to the village maypole. It begins at 5.30 pm when we start  bonding the decorations - before that we will go after hundreds of wild flowers and make the Pellas wreath. Hope to see at the pole! Happy Midsummer!

Rumar Tower!

Welcome to our tiny café that we this summer have opened by the Rumar Tower!

It has been great fun decorating it and trying out my best recipies to real customers - already proved to be "working" on the family and friends. During our first week we have had rasberry-chocolate cake, rhubarb pie, cinnamon buns, Carelian pirogs and today to celebrate the girl-next-door, Madelaine of Sweden and her Chris I wanted to bake romantic muffins with initials M and C...

The place is in our home village Rumar and on the highest point of our island, Rumar Mountain. There is an observation tower built to follow the weather and now during summer opened for everyone to visit - we borrow the binoculars. It is 65 steps up and you get as high as 50 metres above the sea level; that is high around here:)

Beside it there is this lovely wooden kiosk for the entrance fee, fresh coffee and tea, cold lemonade by Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas - made by wind-power! - and cute sweets by a new local sweet factory, Karkkimaailma. And hopefully next week also ice-cream!

Around the highest point there is a nature trail marked by piles of stone. The mountain has a special history of raising above the sea so early after the Ice Age, by the Eastern route of the Vikings and war ships as well as others sailing the Baltic Sea.

There had been held both ceremonies of church and executions of crimals and witches and the nature summons up the different sides of our archipelago. Perhaps one of these days I have time to take you to a tour! Until then keep me busy and come and have a visit! We are open every day from 11 to 18! Next summer at our own farm...
