Sea Fever

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by;
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.

- John Masefield -

One of my favorites. One of the few places where I feel I am me and free. From our little boat at the Rumar home bay we waited for the big ones to come on their way from Turku to the next harbor and waved as they passed us.
We got a glimpse of the big sailing boats of Tall ships race by the Aura river in Turku few days before.

There was one of our locals, too, though without the sails - the reserve ferry of the archipelago and familiar to us from Ostrobothia archipelago, from the time before the big bridge of Raippaluoto/Replot.
Our little boat took the course towards the sea route they were about to sail pass our island and then we waited.
They felt amazing and we felt like panting dogs by the great master when following - and trying to give way - and waving from our tin can.

They headed towards Ute, the southern point of our archipelago and then across the Baltic sea - here between the Fagerholm old coast guard station and Killingholm's old pilot station - same spot where the big Hindenburg sank during the 2nd World War.

Brasilian Cisne Branco!

When it began to feel too overwhelming with so many beauties of the sea and so little petrol left we thought it would be better to head home. A night to remember:)

Summertime

Summertime when will you come?
I wanna put my light things on
I wanna put my winter life away
Summertime I need a sunny day
I want those peaches on the table
Want the watermelon red
And the warm sun creeping through the window
To ease me out of bed
I want the sand out there to lie on
And the sea out there to swim
So my heart can take a holiday
From breaking over him
Summertime when will you come?
I wanna put my light things on
Wanna put my winter life away
Summertime I need a sunny day
And I want to drive forever
Wanna roll my windows down
Get the breeze back on my body
Get my feet back on the ground
I want the sand out there to lie on
And the sea out there to swim
So my heart can take a holiday
From breaking over here
Summertime when will you come?
I wanna put my light things on
I wanna put my winter life away
Summertime I need a sunny day
I love this song written by Leonard Cohen and Sharon Robinson. It is exactly what I want my summer to be - and a lot more. Every summer at some point it strikes, unbearable feeling of the days that pass and I try to do my best, but no time is enough for everything that is expected - that I am expecting of myself - and that I just follow the stream of happenings trying to adapt. An old friend threw me a life saver just in time by saying:
- I pass my life in high speed to be able to finish the world for others. Every once in a while I have to stop to think what makes me do all this. Every time I reach the conclusion that in fact I am living my dream. It does not always feel like it but when you futher  away ahead and back you notice that this is what you have always wanted. You just have to slow down to be able to enjoy it.
When I look ahead and back my summer days I notice that they are filled with just the things that I need.
August, Little Uno and Cecilia, year 1904 perhaps in front of the same lilac bust as below and this summer it really hit the record of blooming wild. The scent filled the rooms inside.

Little Isak joined a summer camp and made an insect hotel and drew cats and dogs that fill the farm. We are also glad to welcome a new family to our village - happiness is to have juice & biscuits in the garden with a new friend.

To our sorrow our Agnes the Goat passed away after a sudden illness and the ashes were laid in the garden and a new rose planted above. Agnes would have loved to eat all the flowers.

Midsummer gathered the family and friends to lift up the May pole of Rumar village and to celebrate the night when the sun does not set. Wild flowers were gathered by the children and pappa the father made a big lovely garland for the top of the pole.

Now it is the season of harvesting  - all the richnesses of garden, field and forest. The cornflower is opening new flowers every day. I feel my thoughts are maturing as well and I have found my spots of  sand, sea and breeze.
