A Beach and a Boy

It is starting to feel like January with frost and snow flakes - a perfect weather for a long walk!

We were suprised by two elks that made their way with force through the bushes across the small road to the village beach. It began to feel much more exciting after that and not only the dogs were listening to every sound from the forest - until we came to the shore. 

Then it was only the sea that filled all the sences. The sound is harsh in the winter and there are all kind of other voices that are made by the frozen stones above the water, icicles building by the waves. Still, the open sea makes the air feel warmer here than in the village.

'A long walk' means provisions. Picnic sheltered by the cliffs - glögg and cinnamon rusks...

The Quiz

When the ice surrounds us and the tourist haven't found this winter paradise of ours the locals seek company and warmth from each other... And our New Year's promise included a sporty way of life, so we combined these two needs and visited Frågesport, a  question-sport - QUIZ - at the Hjalmars! If only people knew how good it does to your shape and your mind it would be much harder for us to win...

Hjalmars is situated in the middle of our island Korppoo in the house of the most famous smuggler Jalmari Mäkelä from the Prohibition time.

Every other Friday at 20.00 it is bingo or the quiz!

We always start with the pizza and round it with the warm chocolate cake of hostess Minna.

Sea Jazz and Hopp-i-Land-Kalle!

Some even bring their own paper and pens - we have a working order, he is responsible for the sport and car news and I am for the rest!

The Lady Fortuna was on our side, this time there were only few of  those two and even if we didn't recognize the stage entering music of Elvis we did know what a clipper was, so...

...The winner was Rumar Runaways! With 14 points of 30 and free pizzas next time!

There are many legends about Jalmari - he was keen on cycling and built an own velodrome by the house. With his twin brother Ilmari he is said to have taken part in a competition, too. Ilmari had started the route Turku-Salo and halfways they had switched and Jalmari had cycled the rest with new strengths and won!

Jalmari was never caught for smuggling but during the war for listening the radio without permission...
