Konungskär, King's Island, though Granny is saying it's Women's Island, old word 'kona' meaning a woman. One of our favourite destinations with the boat at the Archipelago sea near Korppoo. The island is taken care of ministry of forest and there is also an old cottage where you can sleep overnight. Our favourite is to glide from the slippery bold cliffs to the waves for a swim and then take the picnic basket with sandwishes and coffee up to the highest point overlooking the sea. This extraordinary summer with so little rain has made the meadow yellow and dried by the sun.

Pretty Beach & Picnics

Time flies and especially spring this year! Our May begins every year with the little Finnish speaking school of our archipelago, Ulkosaariston koulu, that bakes the popular 1st of May buns and makes "sima", the old viking drink - this year over 200 litres. Pupils and parents get together to prepare everything early in the morning at the school kitchen. Everything is sold to eagerly waiting islanders.

Buns were baked of eight kilograms of wheat flour. The principal of the school had been making the dought since 5 o'clock. Some rolled the buns, others baked, the rest dipped them in sugar and some hands were needed to pack them.

We had decided to have a picnic at the beach and at the same time clean everything extra that the waves had brought there, especially plastic.  The beach of our village became really pretty but the weather drove us inside with our picnic basket.

The first thing we noticed back at home was that our sheep, the seven girls that hadn't been invited to our picnic, had decided to have a picnic of their own, but where? The search patrulls were sent out to find them. We ran, cycled, drove but nowhere to find them. Then  came a phone call: - Are there some "girls" that you are missing? Yes!
Over one kilometre had they wandered and found a beach of their own - or actually a beach of one of the summer cottages. They followed us and the bag of dried bread home, had probably forgotten their picnic basket home...

What a Winter!

We have fortunatelly kicksleds for a small army and it is perfect weather to visit the boat harbour of our village. It is special to kick yourself forward, there is a rhytm  of its own and chance to balance and find the best path, have a break to admire the glittering nature and move even with a faster speed. Something I hope everyone could try.

                                         Jää oli erinomainen pienee Curling-otteluun!

Isak decided it was time for a curling game and handed over suitable pieces of ice. It is not every year we get to enjoy a winter like this one so we have enjoyed the simple pleasures of outdoor life fully.

Egg Retreat

VIKK on meidän korppoolaisten jekku saada kansaa saaristoon ympäri vuoden. Joka kuun ensimmäisenä lauantaina ja sunnuntaina tapahtuu. Majoitusta, tekemistä, herkuttelua! Me otimme varaslähdön pääsiäiseen paastonajan puuhastelulla.

Decorating eggs with the help of beewax is an orthodox tradition and we decided to have a workshop for archipelago visitors and islanders to try it. It was part of our VIKK-weekends, weekends in creative Korppoo, when we living in Korppoo want to invite you all with special offers, activities, good food and cosy accomodation every first Saturday and Sunday of  the month. Our maestro Örjan was the teacher and with great patience taught all the participants of workshops how to melt the beewax and bath the eggs in these lovely colours.

It was like attending a retreat, the concentration was total and it was only the sound of fire burning in the stove and scent of coffee that convinced the egg-artists to have a break with the cakes. It was such a lovely weekend that I think it is going to be a tradition from now-on. A peek towards the Easter.

May I Present Tica, our newest family member!

When used to having children, dogs, cats and goats around it suddenly felt so empty with only one child and one dog trying desperately play with two cats that we decided it was time to open our home for a new family member. We started with adopting Tica from Romanien. After a long waiting at the airport arrived the boxes with scared and tired new inhabitants.

Everything was new, everything. Cars, ferries over the archipelago with pieces of ice against the sides banging, cats! But there was one thing that wasn't scary, there was the new big sister Juliet who loved to play!

Kaikki oli uutta, ihan kaikki. Auto, herkkupalat, matka lautalla jäiden kolistessa, kissat!
