Autumn Fishing

The long warm autumn made our fishing season longer and we became eager to put the net out every weekend. Putting the net means that it is put down in the evening and quite early the next morning there has to be two or three fishermen awake to take it up and clean the catch.

The net has to be cleared and hang to dry but not for too long that the sun won't make it weak. Isak, 9, knows the way with the fish and how to gut them.

Pitkä lämmin syksy teki meistä innokkaita kalastajia, ja varsinkin siikaa riitti joulupöytään asti, kiitos Iriksen kesätöissä oppiman fileoinnin ja graavauksen. Meren herkkujen pyynnissä on oma vaivansa mutta myös mukava askareensa. Koiratkin mielellään olisivat ottaneet omansa ja olivat mestareita livahtamaan vaivihkaa pyrstönpää suusta törröttäen, mutta härkäsimput eivät kelvanneet edes kissoille.

Here's a whitefish for our Xmas table but some of the fish are too peculiar even for the cats, like the fourhorn sculpins. 

Tica and Juliet were eager to help - or run away with a fish tail hanging from the mouth!
